桑沢デザイン研究所卒業後、建築設計事務所にて設計に携わる。その後、盆栽園での職人仕事、日本の古家具修復を経て、輪島にて漆と蒔絵を学ぶ。漆芸家・室瀬和美氏（人間国宝）に師事したのち独立。現在は長野県を拠点に活動中。
 
After graduating from Kuwasawa Design School, Iwashita worked at an architectural firm. He subsequently worked at a bonsai nursery and restored antique Japanese furniture before studying lacquer and maki-e in Wajima. Following an apprenticeship under lacquer artist and Living National Treasure Kazumi Murose, he established his own practice. He is currently based in Nagano Prefecture.
