四海 大 / Dai Shikai
1992年、福岡県北九州市生まれ。2017年から栃木県窯業技術支援センターで陶芸を学び、益子で経験を重ねる。2019年に独立。現在は栃木県益子町を拠点に制作している。
自ら土を探し、掘るところから制作を始める。採取した原土を用いて成形し、主に穴窯などの薪窯で焼成。土そのものの性質と、炎や灰によって変化する表情を生かした作品を制作している。
 
Born in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, in 1992. Shikai began studying ceramics at the Tochigi Prefectural Ceramic Technical Support Center in 2017 and gained further experience in Mashiko. He established his own practice in 2019 and is now based in Mashiko, Tochigi Prefecture.
His process begins with searching for and digging his own clay. He forms his pieces from the raw clay he gathers and fires them primarily in wood-fired kilns, including anagama kilns. His work draws on the inherent qualities of the clay and the surfaces transformed by flame and ash.
