Vacant/Centreでの初のグループ展『Plural Gateways』は、それぞれに異なる素材と向き合いながら制作された、6組の作家の作品を展示します。

つくるという行為は、素材との偶然や必然的な出会いのなかで始まり、選び取った手触りや重ねられた思考によって導かれていきます。作品はその軌跡のひとつの現れであり、そこに至るまでには数えきれない選択と応答の積み重ねがあります。

それぞれの作家が素材とどう向き合い、どのような試行の過程をたどったのか。その道程に浮かび上がる風景が交差する場に、また次なる創作への入口が開かれ、新たな道が続いていくのです。

Plural Gateways, the first group exhibition at Vacant/Centre, brings together works by six artists, each engaging with different materials in their practice.

The act of making begins with encounters—both accidental and inevitable—with material. It is shaped by the chosen textures and layered thoughts that guide the process forward. Each work is a manifestation of that journey, built upon countless choices and responses.

This exhibition offers a space where the landscapes that emerge from each artist’s dialogue with material and their paths of experimentation intersect. Within these crossings, new gateways to creation open, leading onward to yet another road.

青山 幸太（あおやま こうた）

現在岩手・雫石を拠点に活動する青山幸太は、確かな技術と独自の感覚を用いて、数多くのショップインテリアや什器を手掛け、特注家具のデザイン・製作を行っています。2017年Vacant/Harajukuにて個展『TANZ』を開催。

Kota Aoyama

Currently based in Shizukuishi, Iwate, applies his refined craftsmanship and unique sensibility to a wide range of projects, including shop interiors, display fixtures, and custom furniture design and production. In 2017, he held a solo exhibition titled TANZ at Vacant/Harajuku.

太田 一永（おおた かずなが）

1979年生まれ。広島県福山市北部の山里で、主に獣害として駆除される野生の鹿や猪の革を素材に、創作活動を行う。住んでいる土地に咲く季節の植物を革に染め移し、自然が作り出す瑞々しい色柄で、山里の風景を写し留める作品を生み出している。日本各地で展示やクラフトフェアに出展し活動中。近年は台湾で行われた「蚤物市」にも参加。www.instagram.com/kazunaga_ota

Kazunaga Ota

Born in 1979. Based in the mountain village of northern Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture, Ota works primarily with the hides of wild deer and boar that have been culled as agricultural pests. Using seasonal plants gathered from his surroundings, he dyes the leather with patterns and colors created by nature itself, capturing the essence of the rural landscape. He actively exhibits his work across Japan at craft fairs and exhibitions.

大橋 和彰（おおはし かずあき）

1983年東京都生まれ。2005年に「原田左官工業所」で左官の修行をスタートさせ、2015年に「大橋左官」を設立して以来、内装をはじめとして、ワークショップや展示など幅広く活動している。2024年8月Vacant/Centreにて個展「坧を拓く/The Basis」を開催。www.instagram.com/ohashisakan

Kazuaki Ohashi

Born in Tokyo in 1983. In 2005, began training in plasterwork at Harada Plastering Co., and went on to establish his own studio, Ōhashi Plastering, in 2015. Since then, he has been active across a wide range of fields including interior finishing, workshops, and exhibitions. 金井 志人 (かない ゆきひと)

1979年、豊かな自然に育まれた奄美大島に生まれる。 伝統的な天然染色を行う「金井工芸」の二代目として、古来より奄美に伝わる泥染めをはじめとする染色技術を受け継ぐ染色人。伝統的な大島紬の染色を守りながらも、その概念に捉われることなく、日々試行を重ね染色の新たな価値と表現を追求。自然の恵みを生かした染色を通し、先人の知恵と奄美の豊かな色彩を現代に伝える。Vacant/Multipleの衣服の染色も手掛けている。https://www.instagram.com/yukihitokanai/

Yukihito Kanai

Born in 1979 on Amami Oshima, an island nurtured by rich natural surroundings, Yukihito Kanai is the second-generation dyer of Kanai Kougei, a studio dedicated to traditional natural dyeing. He inherits dyeing techniques passed down in Amami, including the island’s iconic dorozome (mud dyeing), and continues to explore new values and expressions beyond the conventions of traditional Oshima Tsumugi dyeing. Drawing on the blessings of nature, his work conveys the wisdom of his ancestors and the vibrant colors of Amami to the present day. 空と海（そらとうみ）

30年前に社会福祉法人地蔵会が千葉県に設立した空と海は、障がいのある方のニーズと活動を支援する福祉サービス事業所です。日本古来の和紙を使った作品から始まり、今では数々の製品を80名を超える方が創り出しています。朝9時の体操から始まり、3つのスタジオ、アートギャラリー、レストランでは和紙づくり、木工、染め・織り・刺繍、陶芸、絵画、料理など、様々な制作活動が組み込まれています。空と海では、寄付されたものや廃棄されたもの、地元の資源をできるだけ集めて使用し、持続可能な循環を心がけています。https://www.instagram.com/sora_to_umi_official/

Sora to Umi

Founded 30 years ago in Chiba Prefecture by the social welfare organization Jizokai, Sora to Umi is a welfare service facility that supports the needs and creative activities of people with disabilities. It began with works made from traditional Japanese washi paper, and today, over 80 individuals create a wide range of products. Each day begins at 9 a.m. with morning exercises, followed by activities in three studios, an art gallery, and a restaurant, where participants engage in papermaking, woodworking, dyeing, weaving, embroidery, ceramics, painting, and cooking. Sora to Umi emphasizes sustainability by using donated, discarded, and locally sourced materials whenever possible, fostering a circular system of making.

Straft（ストラフト）

Tamaki Ishii と Kazuma Yamagami によって結成されたクラフトユニット。2021年に東京造形大学デザイン学科を卒業後、“Straft”として東京を拠点に活動を開始。 伝統的な藁工芸の技術を継承しながら、現代的な表現のかたちを探求している。地域に根ざした自然素材とその背景にある文化的な物語に着目し、人と自然の調和を体現する作品づくりを目指している。https://www.instagram.com/straft__/

Straft

A craft unit formed by Tamaki Ishii and Kazuma Yamagami. After graduating from the Department of Industrial Design at Tokyo Zokei University in 2021, they began their activities in Tokyo under the name “Straft.” Inheriting traditional straw craft techniques, they explore contemporary forms of expression. Their work focuses on natural materials rooted in specific regions and the cultural narratives they carry, aiming to create objects that embody harmony between people and nature.
